About the University / Faculty: The University of Beira Interior (UBI) is a public university located in the city of Covilhã, in Portugal. It is considered one of the best higher education institutions in Europe and one of the best 150 young universities in the world.
Founded in 1986, the University of Beira Interior hosts more than 8000 students, spread across five faculties – Arts and Languages, Science, Health Sciences, Social and Human Sciences, Engineering – with with an extensive formative offer, as well as laboratory and research structures to support the teaching process and with strong links to society and to the business world.
About the city: Covilhã is a Portuguese city belonging to the district of Castelo Branco. The city is located on the southeast slope of Serra da Estrela and is one of the most prominent urban centers in the Beiras region. Its urban core extends between 450 and 800 m in altitude. The highest point in mainland Portugal, the Tower located at 1993 m in altitude, is included in three municipalities: Covilhã, Manteigas and Seia, but is located about 20 km from the urban center of Covilhã, making it the Portuguese city closest to the highest point in mainland Portugal. It is the land of the wool industry, and the birthplace of 15th century maritime discoverers such as Pêro da Covilhã.
About the Local Group: Founded in 1993, AEROUBI & AS Covilhã – Aeronautical Engineering Students Nucleus of the University of Beira Interior is an independent, non-profit association, part of EUROAVIA – European Association of Aerospace Students . The goals of our association are to support the academic path of Aeronautical Engineering students of this University in all its aspects, such as: promoting relationships between the academic community and society in general, captivating students to the Aeronautics and Aviation culture, as well as deepening relations between business, academic and civil society entities.
